Continuation Betting

When to c-bet, how board texture changes your frequency.

A continuation bet (c-bet) is a bet on the flop made by the preflop aggressor โ€” "continuing" the story that you have a strong hand. It's one of the most common plays in poker.

When to c-bet vs check
Dry board (K72 rainbow)
C-bet frequentlyFew draws, board favours the preflop raiser's range
Wet board (9โ™ 8โ™ 7โ™ฅ)
C-bet selectivelyMany draws; opponents may have connected well
Out of position, large field
Check more oftenHard to protect range vs multiple callers
Size matters: A 33% pot c-bet forces the same fold equity as a 50% bet on many boards but costs less when called. Small, high-frequency c-bets are the modern approach on dry boards.
