Mixed Strategies

Why solvers mix frequencies and how to exploit imbalances.

Solvers often recommend mixing โ€” playing a hand some percentage as a bet and some percentage as a check. This prevents opponents from exploiting a predictable pattern.

For example: with AA on a K72 board, a solver might say bet 67% of the time and check 33%. If you always bet AA, observant opponents can check-raise you more aggressively. If you mix, they can't adjust.

How to use mixed strategies practically

vs unknown opponents: Mix at approximately solver frequencies. Use card suit or random mental cues to determine the action (e.g., if your suit is red โ†’ bet, black โ†’ check).

vs known weak opponents: Abandon mixing and always take the highest-EV action. Mixing vs a calling station means you're sometimes checking hands you should bet for value.

Don't over-rotate: Mixing is important in high-stakes games against good players. At lower stakes, opponents rarely have the discipline to exploit frequency imbalances. Focus on fundamentals first.
