Solver Workflow

How to use a solver effectively: spot selection and a practical study process.

Solvers (GTO+, PioSOLVER, Simple Postflop) compute near-perfect strategies for any poker spot. Used correctly, they're the most powerful study tool ever created. Used incorrectly, they create analysis paralysis and memorised patterns that don't transfer.

Effective solver study workflow
1
Identify a spot you played that felt off โ€” a specific hand or spot type
2
Build the spot in the solver with realistic ranges (not perfect ranges)
3
Run the solution. Look at the EV of each action โ€” not just what to do, but why
4
Find the principle: "I should bet when X and check when Y" โ€” abstract it
5
Test the principle on similar spots. Does it hold?
Don't memorise โ€” understand. The solver gives you actions for one specific tree. Tables, bet sizes, and opponents change. The principle behind the action transfers everywhere.
